Dr. William Schlichtemeier is a native Nebraskan. His ancestors came to Nebraska in the 1850’s. Dr. Schlichtemeier was born in Omaha, NE.. He graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University and the University of Nebraska School of Medicine. Dr. Schlichtemeier was stationed at Oakland Naval Hospital for two years to teach eye surgeons the techniques of corneal transplantation, intraocular lens implantation, and vitrectomy. He has personally taught over thirty surgeons the techniques of corneal transplantation. Dr. Schlichtemeier was the first ophthalmologist in Nebraska to do epikeratophakia and keratomileusis. He learned keratorefractive surgery (the fore runner to LASIK) in 1981.
