Surgeon Bio

Dr. Eugene Smith, M.D.,  was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. He attended the United States Air Force Academy and graduated from the University of Georgia with a B.S. in Microbiology. He graduated from the Medical College of Georgia in 1991. In medical school, Dr. Smith received an award for excellence in Anatomy and was selected to be a member of the AOA medical honor society for his high academic achievements and high class standing.

After medical school, Dr. Smith completed 7 years of surgical training. He completed his transitional surgery internship at the University of Hawaii and his Ophthalmology residency at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. He completed an American Society of Oculo Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) approved Fellowship in Tucson, AZ. He then completed an Aesthetic (Cosmetic) Plastic Surgery Fellowship in Honolulu, HI in 1998.

Dr. Smith is a current or past member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), American Society of Oculo Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (ASOPRS), and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). Dr. Smith is board certified in Ophthalmology and specializes in laser vision correction. He has performed more than 153,000 LASIK procedures. Dr. Smith has published articles in peer-reviewed medical journals, written chapters for medical textbooks, and has lectured to doctors at national meetings.

Dr. Smith was born and raised in Atlanta where he resides with his wife and three children. In his spare time, he enjoys coaching, reading, drawing, scuba diving, snowboarding, and mixed martial arts.
